Our mission is to promote the generation of young talentsDoctorate Programmes

The SR21 - Institute for Scientific Research offers a focused portfolio of Doctorate degrees, designed to develop the highest level of intellectual authority, research capability, and strategic expertise within a specialised field. All Doctorate programmes are Level 8 qualifications, institutionally awarded in accordance with Swiss law, and centred on the production of original research addressing complex scientific, technological, and organisational challenges.

Candidates undertake their studies within a structured, research-intensive framework, guided by highly qualified supervisors and doctoral leaders who ensure academic rigour, methodological precision, and relevance to real-world applications.

In line with the SR21 model, applicants do not enter predefined doctoral pathways independently. Instead, prospective candidates engage directly with the institute, where a trained study and career adviser conducts a detailed consultation. This process ensures alignment between the doctoral research programme and the individual’s expertise, objectives, and intended contribution to their field.

The result is a highly personalised doctoral pathway, combining close supervision, advanced research practice, and strategic relevance to produce specialists capable of contributing at the highest levels of academia, industry, and policy.

Develop the intellectual authority and strategic confidence required for senior leadership within a highly selective, closed -circle research environment. Participation is deliberately limited, ensuring engagement with a carefully curated cohort of accomplished peers and direct access to senior researchers. This model enables intensive scholarly exchange, discretion, and the formation of enduring high-trust professional networks.

Doctoral-level awards are delivered through bespoke supervision, where each candidate is individually aligned with subject-matter authorities based on domain specificity and research alignment. Supervision is not standardised but tailored—providing continuous, high-level guidance, critical challenge, and methodological precision throughout the research process. This approach ensures that each doctoral trajectory is shaped by both intellectual rigour and applied relevance, reflecting the Institute’s emphasis on depth, originality, and strategic impact.
