The MPhil or Licentiate degree is a postgraduate, research degree, considered above the Master’s degree and below the research Doctoral degree. It may take one or two years, depending on the structure of the agreed course. Our institution decided to offer both paths of MPhil or Licentiate degrees when we realised that many students discover research late in their careers and need more research experience to compete for top Doctorate programs since our institution aims to provide an intensive, high impact on international research experience and collaboration opportunities worldwide.
MPhil/Licentiate students work side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in environments devoted exclusively to advanced research. The focus of the programs is to help the students meet the critical need for diverse investigations in advanced research. This objective is achieved by providing:
– an intense mentored research experience in top labs of the institutions involved
– special seminars and selected graduate-level courses to expand student’s knowledge base so they can begin to apply Advanced science knowledge to their field of research
– mentoring and guidance to assist with successful possible continuation to a Doctorate program to succeed in a research career.
Finally, on a case-by-case basis, candidates must pass a viva voce examination before the chosen degree is awarded.
