The Bachelor degree is an award that students can study in disciplines related to each department or lab of the Institute.
The degree can be widely customised and individualised but this involves considerable effort, via supervised research assignments, projects and a thesis. It is equivalent to a standard Bachelor’s degree based on the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) as well as the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) – Level 6.
Our Bachelor degrees correspond to a total of 1800 study hours at undergraduate level per year. It requires students to write a Bachelor thesis of at least 30 ECTS credits. It is required for the student to work independently in order to acquire valuable skills, whatever the subsequent career direction. The student determines the area of study and programme of work with the tutors and the supervisors and is provided with appropriate training to enable him/her to complete the programme of study. This finally will culminate in the preparation of a thesis which is submitted for assessment by internal and external examiners, together with an oral examination.
Advanced degrees may be gained by full or part-time study or a combination of the two. Many part time students choose to follow a programme of study in collaboration with their employer, with supervision being provided both by our institution and the place of work. All students undertaking our degrees are provided with specialist supervision from experts in their chosen subject area. The supervisors meet with the student on a regular basis to consider the direction of the work done, progress with the research, drafts of material that may constitute papers and draft chapters.
